QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
SKIBIKE QUESTIONS
How long does it take to learn Skibiking ?
We estimate that moderately athletically gifted person needs about 1 week to be able to ski biking. If you ride mountain bikes you should be able to carve after 2 days on a blue to medium red slope. To cope with steeper slopes or icy slopes is a longer practice necessary.
.How to ride the Freerider?
On "How to Skibike" you can find some instruction videos- we highly recommend to watch the videos befor you start to ride.
what is the most suitable bike to transform to a skibike?
Possible are almost all 26 inch, 27.5 and 29 inch downhill enduro and trail mountain bikes. So generally mountain bikes with at least 150mm travel at the rear, a steering angle flatter than 70 ° and in the "bike state" have a bottom bracket height (depending on travel) of 330-370mm. Furthermore, the wheel needs a 20mm or 15mm thru axle at the fork and a 12mm thru axle at the rear. The 20mm axle spacers are only suitable for downhill forks with axle widths of 110mm and the 15mm axle spacers only for forks with 100mm and 110mm width. For the rear end, the common downhill installation widths 150 and 157mm are available, as well as 148 and 142mm. With each Transformer Kit the adapters for all the aforementioned axle standards are automatically supplied.
Our adapters for the conversion have since version 2.0, which ensure a reset of the skis in a horizontal position. Nevertheless, if your axles have a quick release system, the skis are removable within seconds, because the connection is not fixed.
What should be observed on a regular basis?
BEFORE EACH DRIVE we recommend quite urgently to adjust the shock absorbers to the temperature. Because the temperature has a very great influence on the driving behavior, especially on the skibike. Make sure that the shock absorbers do not expand too quickly and "shoot you away" but also that they do not work too slowly, because otherwise they "work" in a sequence of bumps. This means that they have no time to bounce out before the next bump comes. This quickly ends with them not being able to work at all. So just after the skibike was a few minutes in the free jump around on it and "feel" whether it fits so approximately. The dampers should, if you jump with full force in the bike in about half a second spring out, but also no faster.
.Where is the skibike brake?
We have deliberately chosen to develop a full suspension sports equipment, because it makes no sense to keep a piece of sports equipment with a suspended saddle in the hand and at the same time to ski, as is the case for the devices with foot skis . When riding Skbikes you stand on the footrests and the shocks will be absorbed in a perfect way by the suspension. If you want to ride with foot skis you actually are looking for a Skibob which is a different kind of sports gear. We will offer Skibobs again in 2022.
Foot skis, yes or no?

.Can you jump with the sledgehammer?
Yes, you can because we sell Skibikes with a very good suspension, super fast ski retention (since the model 5.1) and a very strong frame. Though we strongly recommend not to jump the big park kickers. Please take it easy and start small. We find it best to build you own backcountry kicker and jump into soft snow. Push your limits slowly and enjoy doing tricks you were ever dreaming of when riding your MTB.
Riding standing or sitting?
Both! Sledgehammer Skibikes are characterized by the fact that they are very versatile. We have a bench seat or bike saddle that is further back than competitor skibikes to sit on with proper weight distribution. Other skibike manufacturers have a saddle to use purely as a guide. And yet you can ride our skibikes just as well standing up. Because you wear thick winter boots that allow it on the specially designed frame with the inner Bei / boots to exert pressure to overturn the skibike.

QUESTIONS ABOUT RIDING A LIFT
Is riding the chairlift allowed?
A skibike rider without gliding aids on his feet, i.e. without foot skis, is considered a pedestrian, according to the Ministry of Transport, and may also only be transported by chairlifts that are allowed to transport pedestrians. In order for a chairlift to be allowed to transport pedestrians, it must have an exit for pedestrians in addition to the usual downhill ramp for skiers. About 50% of chairlifts have such exits. You can see how to ride a chairlift safely here: LINK Please always remember that you are holding a piece of sports equipment in your hands!
Never leave it off! If the skibike falls off the lift it can cause serious injury to people underneath. The safety bar of the lift must be closed in any case! If this description is not clear to you, please contact us before using the device!
.Can I use anchor/ T-bar lifts?
Technically no problem. You can ride them by placing the bail at the rear of your saddle or standing on the Skibike and sit on the bail like when you ride it on skis or snowboard. Please see the Skibike tutorials to get more detailed information on how to ride lifts. BUT by law you are not allowed to ride all T-bar lifts (in 10-2021 – because we expect a change in 2021). We personally never got a “No” except on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier in Austria.
Transport with gondola/cable car?
The use of cable systems is not a hindrance, but even here the lift attendant has the right to prohibit the ride. Therefore, our experience – and as already mentioned we were never prohibited to ride – get on the cable car with self-awareness, coolness and be relaxed. For this you should already know how to do it. Who is afraid of doing something wrong, it is time to ask the friendly lift attendant to assist you. Probably there will be no problem to use your Skibike on all your lifts. But according to the regulations of transport, it is finally up to lift operators. .
Naturally, it may be that you can use your skibike without problems on all lifts, even on T-bar lifts, but according to the Cableway Act, the T-bar lifts Regulation and the operating regulations, this is the responsibility of the lift operator.
